Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award News
I am in TOTAL shock.
I mentioned in an earlier post that my novel, Visions, made the Top 1000 (out of 5000) in the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award contest, based on my 300-word pitch. I also mentioned that Visions wouldn’t be going any farther in this contest because it needed to be seriously rewritten.
Apparently, I was wrong. Oh, it still needs to be seriously rewritten.
But Visions made it into the Top 250 (out of 1000), based on a read of the first 5000 words! I am still in total shock!
The judges for the young adult side of this contest are:
- Regina Hayes, President and Publisher of Viking Children’s Books
- Charlie Olsen, Agent at InkWell Management
- Andrea Cremer, New York Times best-selling author, Nightshade, Wolfsbane, Bloodrose
A huge THANK YOU to the judges who liked the beginning of my story enough to send me to the next round!

Next up? The Top 250 will be whittled down to the Top 50, based on a full manuscript read. Yikes! Results will be posted on April 24, 2012.
Pitches and excerpts of the Top 250 are currently posted on Amazon for reader review. The formatting is a bit awkward – weird symbols pop up where italics should be – but hopefully this will be fixed soon.
Let me know what’s going on with your writing world. I love to hear success stories!
Happy Writing!
Oh, congrats! I’ll have my fingers crossed for you on this next stage.
Thank you, Julie! It’s so wonderful to have writing friends and be able to support each other.
How exciting! I love Andrea Cremer, btw –they’ve got some great judges on this.
I hope you go all the way. Best of luck.

Thank you, Erin! Again, loved your blog post today. I’ve already spent a couple hours inserting indents into my manuscript.
Wonderful news Tanya… I wish you the best of luck on this next stage. Hoping the very best for you. (As a fellow aspiring writer, I can only imagine your excitement). Rooting for you.
Thank you! As I’m currently heavy into another Visions rewrite, I doubt I’ll make the top 50. It just needs SO MUCH WORK. Glad to get this far, though.
Congrats! Every year I think my novel will be ready in time to submit to this contest, but it never is. What an awesome achievement! Hope your book keeps going :]
Thanks, Hannah! We’ve just got to keep at it, right? I keep trying to win something in the elusive Writer’s Digest contest, too.
